S.E.R
We restore the ecosystem, reduce impacts, and celebrate diversity.
SER = Sustainability, Ecology, Regeneration
In the heart of Nature, where regeneration is essential, a tourism space and an ecology school flourish, guiding us towards a future where humanity lives in harmony and tune with nature. Thus, in 2023, the SER team was born to respond to the needs of customers and the ecosystem.

Preservation and Enhancement of Green Areas
We are responsible for sustainable management, maintenance of green areas and redevelopment of park spaces, with integrated ecological systems.
We are on the path to ZERO WASTE.
We propagate in our seedbed the flora we want to see in the park.
We recycle water and revitalise water lines.
We calculate the carbon footprint and water footprint.
We have research projects with universities.
We preserve fauna and flora.
We recycle organic waste for soil and crop cover.
REGENERATION IN ACTION
The Salema Eco Camp experience we want is for customers, staff and visitors to feel at home or to discover their refuge, aware that they are in an ecological place that is regenerating itself. We are located in the Costa Vicentina and Southwest Alentejo Natural Park, on the Rota Vicentina and Via Algarviana trails. Set in an area of green valleys, we are embraced by the sea to the south (about 2 km) and west (about 15 km).

Zero Waste
Salema Eco Camp wants to stand out by following a new path to improve ecological waste management. We want to go beyond European or national legislation; we want to regenerate our land. Together with Zero, MiZA, and Zero Waste Europe, we implement customised strategies that minimise waste and improve circular economy practices. Since 2024, we have been on our way to becoming a Zero Waste business.
Chest
Part of being sustainable and acting regeneratively is being able to produce our own products and raw materials. The existence of the alcofre (an old word referring to a nursery) was born precisely from this premise, adding an educational aspect and contributing to the community. We have invested resources and time, gradually and with constant dedication, in order to improve and continue the growth of our alcofre, promoting values of ecology, respect and knowledge sharing.

Green Key
Green Key is a certificate of excellence in environmental responsibility and sustainable operation in the tourism sector and represents Salema Eco Camp's commitment to complying with the strict criteria defined by the Foundation for Environmental Education. The award guarantees our customers that by choosing to stay at Salema Eco Camp, they are helping to make a difference to the environment. We have been certified since 2022.

ETAR: Wastewater Treatment Plant
The recycling of brown and grey water has brought a new dimension to our project, enabling us to reuse the water we consume at least once before it is absorbed into the soil.

Conservation of Fauna and Flora
Our space is a refuge not only for visitors but also for local biodiversity. We work to preserve native species, such as orchids, where we maintain natural habitats that promote their flowering, and butterflies, where we seek to create areas for their reproduction. Here, nature and rest coexist in balance.

Research and Development
Since 2024, we have been working with research and development institutions, namely the Instituto Superior Técnico – Lisbon and the University of Algarve. We investigate water consumption and how to make it more efficient, we give seminars on managing a regenerative tourism space, and we aim to study the impact of our Salema river on the local ecosystem. Transparency and reliability are two of Salema Eco Camp's core values.
