Open Day S.E.R.
Open Day S.E.R.
The S.E.R. team (Sustainability, Ecology and Regeneration) at Salema Eco Camp opens its doors to showcase its projects and share experiences and learnings with the local community and the general public.
We’ll take a walk through the campsite’s green spaces, introduce our projects, exchange ideas on landscape regeneration and discover local wildlife, all with warmth, hospitality and joy.
What to expect:
Solar Oven Biscuit Workshop
Harnessing the sun’s clean energy for cooking is important. Shall we make some delicious, healthy biscuits using sustainable energy? Get hands-on, enjoy some freshly baked biscuits and share the rest during the afternoon’s discussion and documentary screening.
Regenerative Walk
Come and discover Salema Eco Camp from a different perspective. We’ll explore the campsite’s key ecological and regenerative projects, including leaky dams, agroforestry rows, composting, water reuse, our plant nursery and much more! Join us for a moment of sharing, discovery and learning.
Tree Planting
Be part of Salema Eco Camp’s regeneration! We’ll put our plans into action by planting trees in an area undergoing restoration, helping regenerate the landscape — one of our team’s main goals.
Documentary: “Millions of Half Moon Pits in Sahara”
To raise awareness about landscape regeneration, we’ll screen this documentary exploring how small actions can lead to major environmental changes through the use of half-moon pits. This simple technique helps retain moisture, reduce erosion and bring life back to the land. Join us (because it’s more fun together!) to discover how this approach is helping slow the spread of the desert and inspire hope for the future. The screening will be followed by an informal discussion, with tea and biscuits to enjoy.
Daytime and Night-time Butterflies
Discover the fascinating world of Lepidoptera in the southwest Algarve! Observe daytime butterflies with Ângela at 2 pm, and explore nocturnal species at 7 pm in a special session with a representative from REBN (Portuguese Network of Moth Monitoring Stations). Learn about citizen science projects and get a closer look at these fascinating creatures!
Free entry and activities. Registration mandatory by 22 October.
