Ribeira Project
Learn about our project
The intervention project on the river that runs through our park aims to spread a message of hope and conviction.
We live in a semi-arid region, where water scarcity is becoming increasingly evident. The solutions that society seeks for this central problem are based on a perspective influenced by economic needs that generally seek short-term results and fail to understand fundamental problems, such as the desertification of watercourses.
The Result
During periods of heavy rainfall, instead of functioning like a sponge that slows down and absorbs as much water as possible, watersheds tend to act more like a network of drainage channels, allowing all this precious potential to flow towards the ocean.
Our intervention shows one of the nature-based solutions for how we can try to reactivate natural processes that promote greater water absorption and sediment retention. We aim to achieve a healthier stream that is capable of supporting greater biodiversity in the surrounding fauna and flora, fulfilling its ecological function.
