Yurts: A New Chapter in the Story of Salema Eco Camp

For thousands of years, nomadic communities across Central Asia found shelter in circular structures designed to withstand strong winds, cold winters and changing climates. Simple in design, ingenious in construction and deeply connected to the land, yurts became a symbol of freedom and a way of living in harmony with nature.

Originally from Mongolia and other parts of Central Asia, yurts were the traditional homes of nomadic families for centuries. Built with wooden frames and covered with wool and felt, they could be easily dismantled, transported and rebuilt, following the rhythm of the seasons and a life constantly on the move.

They reflected a simple yet thoughtful way of living, making the most of natural resources while respecting the environment.

That philosophy continues to inspire those who believe that a more sustainable future begins with the way we choose to live and travel.

It was this shared vision that brought together Salema Eco Camp and Celtic Yurts, a Galician company specialising in contemporary yurt construction.

While traditional yurts were built with natural materials such as untreated wood, sheep’s wool, cotton and animal-fibre ropes, today’s versions preserve the essence of the original design while using more durable, efficient and weather-resistant materials, always with sustainability at the heart of every decision.

The yurts at Salema Eco Camp were designed by our team to blend naturally into the surrounding landscape while offering a comfortable and welcoming space without losing the connection to the outdoors.

It means waking up to birdsong instead of an alarm, enjoying the morning breeze before breakfast, watching the stars at night and allowing yourself to slow down.

In a world that rarely stops, the yurts invite you to do exactly that: pause, reconnect and enjoy the present.

The yurts represent another step in the evolution of Salema Eco Camp and reflect what has guided us from the very beginning: creating spaces that respect the land, embrace conscious construction and offer authentic experiences to every guest.

It has always been a place of connection, discovery and belonging.

Today, it continues that story in the heart of the Costa Vicentina, inviting every guest to experience nature in a simpler, slower and more meaningful way.
